– because our pets are family too!
Whether they are U2, Darryl Braithwaite or Gino Vannelli inspired, there is something incredibly beautiful about horses. Late last year I had the opportunity to tick off an item on my photography bucket list by photographing horses on the beach. Family portraits that include your fur babies .. doesn’t get much better!
This family portrait experience reinforced for me what a close bond we develop with our pets. In fact, for many people, the term ‘pet’ is not correct. Rather we should be saying ‘family’. Over the years I have photographed a heap of family portraits which have included fur babies and other non-human members of the family. Portraits of our pets, whose life-spans are typically shorter, are another example of how photos can become more important to us as we progress through life.
I enjoyed every moment of this family portrait shoot. Watching rider and horse frolic in the surf was enchanting. The sound of galloping horses in soft sand with surf crashing and gulls singing overhead is, to say the least, a unique soundscape.
The location for this session was Hastings Point in Northern New South Wales. Not far from Cabarita – the area is known for its horse friendly beaches. There is a great horse camping ground at the Cabarita Beach Pony Club. I am thinking that on a personal level, my next goal is to go riding on the beach myself. It has been a goodly while since I sat in a saddle. I wonder if I can get a horse with training wheels?
